Many employers advertise vacancies without posting a salary range yet demand to know about your past and current pay. This violates the Constitution which says that labour market practises must be fair. When employers benefit from information advantages, they are unfair.

Agreed. A person’s current/past salary should not be used to determine a candidate’s worth. Salaries should be based on good job grading systems and practices.

I do agree it is good practice to have the salary in the job advertisement, I have seen this being done uniformly in many other countries. Hopefully, this practice becomes more widespread in South Africa. Do you think there is a case for asking our courts to make a ruling on this?
